Cambridge Roofers – Roof Refurbishment at St Ives Corn Exchange
Cambridge Roofers completed a full roof refurbishment at the historic St Ives Corn Exchange. This central landmark sits in the heart of the Cambridgeshire town of St Ives. The building required careful planning to preserve its heritage while upgrading the roof with modern, safe materials.
The project involved removing asbestos sheets and installing new Kingspan composite panels. We also designed a custom scaffolding system to protect neighbouring properties. Access was limited, and the brickwork was fragile. As a result, we had to redesign the scaffold mid-project to meet safety standards.
Our team worked closely with local stakeholders to reduce disruption during the refurbishment. We ensured all work met UK health and safety guidelines, particularly regarding asbestos removal, which was carried out by UKATA-certified professionals.
By upgrading to energy-efficient composite materials, the roof now offers improved thermal performance and long-term durability. The refurbishment also enhances the visual appeal of the building, ensuring it continues to serve as a key community venue.
This project highlights our expertise in roofing for listed or historic buildings, balancing structural improvements with aesthetic and community considerations.
