Project Overview
Cambridge Roofers Ltd were awarded the role of principal contractor in October 2019.The church had reported that they had water ingress in the tiled roof and also damp appearing in various places, also the gutters were old and damaged. The roof had been installed over 50 years ago but recently started to allow water ingress.
Cambridge Roofers were called in to inspect the roof area and decide on a plan to fix the leaks but also minimize disruption to the church, they wanted a long-life solution but works completed in a short space of time and also at a reasonable cost.
We decided that the fastest and most economical way would be to erect full scaffolding to give us good access and minimize disruption as we had to work set hours each day to allow the church to carry on with its duties.
We then could remove all tiles, felt and batten and replace with new modern tiles and felt. Whilst carrying out these works, we would install new 100mm Knauf Eko Roll Loft insulation to keep the warmth in and lower heating costs.
In under 8 Weeks we had to oversee the build of the scaffold still allowing the church to function and then completely re-new the church roof and gutter.
- Strip off old tiles and stack ready to be re-used elsewhere saving in skips and waste.
- Removal of old felt and batten and replace with new Tyvec breathable felt and treated timber battens.Install new light weight long lasting tiles.
- Install new cement verges and dry ridge system.
- Removal of split lead valley and replace with robust GRP valleytroft.
- Install of new 100mm Eco-insulation between the rafters.
- Removal of old gutter and install with new cast iron guttering for longer life.
Cambridge Roofers Ltd assigned 3-5 operatives, DBS Checked and qualified installers to carry out this work within 8 weeks to minimize disruption, also the site was managed by our operations manager Sean Audley working closely with the church and the and Vicar. This Refurb project was delivered and handed over after 7 weeks allowing normality back to the church and anyone that used it.
