Cambridge Roofers recently completed a solar panel roofing installation for Rivercircle Ltd, a company based on Padholme Road East, Peterborough. The goal was to reduce energy costs and enhance the building’s existing roofing structure by integrating a high-efficiency solar PV system. Challenges

Several challenges emerged during the project, including structural limitations in the existing roof, which initially couldn’t support the planned solar array. Additionally, asbestos removal was required due to the age of the roof, necessitating careful handling and safety measures to meet UK health and safety standards.

• Structural and Solar Design: Conducted a detailed structural survey to assess load-bearing capacity. The solar PV system design was adapted to distribute weight evenly, ensuring compliance with structural safety and optimising solar generation.
• Asbestos Removal and Compliance: Installed safety netting for asbestos removal to meet UK safety standards, protecting both the workforce and the building’s integrity.
• High-Efficiency Installation: Installed 520 Jinko Solar 445W panels and two Solis 100kW inverters to maximise energy output and efficiency.
• Roofing and Cladding: Installed durable metal roof sheets with a plastisol leathergrain finish, in addition to plastisol-coated gutters and downpipes, to enhance weather resistance and extend the roof’s lifespan.

This installation is set to save Rivercircle Ltd over £1 million in energy costs over the next decade. With an anticipated payback period of seven years, the solar PV system will offset both the solar and roofing installation expenses, resulting in substantial long-term savings and reduced carbon emissions.
