St Andrew’s Baptist Church Flat Roof Refurbishment

Cambridge Roofers Ltd carried out the St Andrew’s Baptist Church Flat Roof Refurbishment roof project in Cambridge, addressing long-standing issues with the existing reinforced bitumen felt roof. The system had reached the end of its lifespan, showing cracks and openings that risked water ingress. In addition, the church required improvements to roofline details and natural light within the offices.

Project Challenges

The St Andrew’s Baptist Church Flat Roof Refurbishment  involved several key challenges. The failing felt roof required a modern replacement, timber fascia boards were rotting, and outdated guttering needed replacement. The client also requested the installation of skylights to bring more natural light into office areas. All works had to be completed while ensuring the church remained open and fully operational.

Our Approach

  • Roof Replacement: The deteriorated bitumen felt was replaced with a Firestone EPDM single-ply membrane. This modern system provides a 25-year warranty and exceptional resistance to weather damage.

  • Fascia & Guttering: Rotted timber fascia was removed and replaced with new black uPVC fascia and guttering, improving durability and appearance.

  • Skylight Installation: Four dome ‘tube’ skylights were fitted, directing natural light into suspended ceilings and transforming the interior office space without compromising insulation.

  • Additional Works: A missing roof tile from the adjacent pitched roof was replaced. Temporary scaffolding with double handrails ensured safe access, and waste was managed responsibly via an off-site skip.

Results

This project was completed in January 2024 at a project value of £39,000 + VAT. The EPDM system now ensures long-term waterproofing, energy efficiency, and peace of mind for the church. The skylights significantly improved the internal environment, while the new fascia and guttering enhanced the roofline’s integrity.

Cambridge Roofers maintained careful coordination throughout, ensuring the congregation could continue to use the church without disruption. The Centre Manager praised the team’s reliability, transparency, and strong health and safety standards.
