Scott Bader Flat Roof Overlay
Cambridge Roofers Ltd acted as principal contractor for the Scott Bader Flat Roof Overlay Case Study in Wollaston, Wellingborough. The project was valued at £16,700 and involved refurbishing a 300m² flat roof that had been in service for over 40 years. Persistent water ingress, blocked outlets, and damp parapet walls required urgent attention.
Project Challenges
This project had to be delivered quickly while offices below remained open. Strict site access hours and safety requirements meant works had to be carefully coordinated. Minimising disruption for staff while ensuring a watertight long-term solution was essential.
Our Approach
-
Access & Preparation: Full scaffolding was erected to provide safe access while allowing the building to remain operational. Moss, debris, and blisters were removed before installing a bituminous primer.
-
Parapet & Edge Works: Old metal cappings were stripped, 18mm OSB ply was installed on parapets, and new GRP trims were fitted to drip edges.
-
Roofing System: A 3mm underlay torch-on system was applied across the roof and skylight areas, followed by the installation of the Signature 25 felt cap sheet, providing a 25-year guarantee.
-
Detailing & Finishing: Redundant vents were removed and blanked with OSB ply. Gutters were fully refurbished with new felt systems and edge trims.
The project was managed by Operations Manager George Sugden and Site Manager Simon Shanks, supported by a team of DBS-checked, qualified installers.
Results
The Scott Bader Flat Roof Overlay was completed within three weeks, meeting both budget and programme. The new 25-year felt system provides a long-lasting, watertight solution, ensuring the building remains fully protected. Disruption was kept to a minimum, and the client was able to continue operations throughout.
